2017 – Hummingbird House, 2018 – Cancer Council, 2019 The Hands of Rescue Foundation. Papua New Guinea based not-for-profit, The Hands of Rescue (THOR) is now online, thanks to support from MSI Taylor and, in particular, partner Matthew Harris. THOR was founded in 2011 to help train medical staff in safe obstetrics. They also work to encourage mothers, especially from remote areas, to give birth in their local health centre instead of at home. Other work they are involved in includes support for mothers from remote villages before and after giving birth, provision of medical equipment and training in family planning. Their goal is to reduce the shockingly high infant and maternal mortality rate in PNG. To find out more about the wonderful work they do and to show your support by making a donation, visit their website at www.thehandsofrescue.org.au. You can also follow them on Facebook and Twitter.
ABC TV’s Foreign Correspondent program produced a wonderful profile on Dr Kirby and the work he does. You can view it on iView here.
